Temple History
The history of this temple can be traced back to the year 1930. It was then built in the Public Works Department (PWD) residential area by residents of PWD Quarters in 6½ Miles, Ipoh Road. It was initiated by Mr.Rathinavelu, Mr.Manikam and Mr.Kalimuthu under the chairmanship of Mr.Nagalingam. The temple which was built on a small scale as a hut under a tree was then known as Sri Muniandy Temple which is now 80 years old to-date (2010).
Progress of the temple over the years
In the year 1960, through the effort by then MIC Deputy President Tan Sri V. Manickavasagam and Mr. S. Samy Vellu (former MIC President and former Works Minister, Dato’ Seri Utama S. Samy Vellu), a small plot of land was given by the Federal Government, along 6½ Miles, Ipoh Road. Dato Seri S. Samy Vellu also assisted the temple in seeking a contribution of RM5,000.00 from the Federal Government and took a personal interest in the construction and improvement of the temple.

With the increase of the Hindu population surrounding the temple vicinity over the past few years, many improvements have been developed with the help of various chairmen and managing committee members who have devoted their precious time and helped improve the status of the temple from day one for the benefit of our devotees. The temple has been doing its religious duties to its best and to the satisfaction of devotees in its surroundings.
Present operations of the temple
The temple now conducts all the special poojas as per the Hindu calendar and according to Shaivism (Saiva Neri). This includes monthly special poojas such as Pradhosam, Pournami, Amavasai, Sivarathiri, Sathurthi, Sangadahara Sathurthi, Karthigai, Shashti and Ashtami Pooja (Bhairavar). The yearly special pooja includes Tamil New Year, Chitra Pournami, Vaigasi Visagam, Aani Thirumanjanam, Aadipooram, Aadi 18 Perukku, Thiruvilakku Pooja, Vinayagar Sathurthi, Navarathiri, Deepavali, Sri Kantha Shashti, Thirukkaarthigai, Thai Ponggal, Maasi Magam, Maha Sivarathiri and Panguni Uthiram.
Of these, Maha Sivarathiri and Navarathiri are celebrated on a grand scale over 10 days with the procession of Utchava Moorthy. Varudaabishegam, the temple anniversary celebration, is celebrated on a grand scale with Thirukkalyanam.
The temple’s multi-purpose hall is open for booking for weddings, engagements and cultural events. Responses for this have been very encouraging. Since 2009 with the authority as an Assistant Wedding Registrar, couples can have their wedding registered at the temple when they plan their wedding ceremony in the temple which provides greater convenience. Other than weddings and engagements, the hall is also being used for meetings, Bharatha Naatiyam classes, Yoga classes, student programs etc.
The Management Committee currently organizes Thevaram, Bharatha Natyam classes and for school students motivational camps and workshops.
The temple is currently being managed by a committee of 14 members consisting of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer and 8 ordinary committee members.
