Temple History

The history of this temple can be traced back to the year 1930. It was then built in the Public Works Department (PWD) residential area by residents of PWD Quarters in 6½ Miles, Ipoh Road. It was initiated by Mr.Rathinavelu, Mr.Manikam and Mr.Kalimuthu under the chairmanship of Mr.Nagalingam. The temple which was built on a small scale as a hut under a tree was then known as Sri Muniandy Temple which is now 80 years old to-date (2010).

Progress of the temple over the years

In the year 1960, through the effort by then MIC Deputy President Tan Sri V. Manickavasagam and Mr. S. Samy Vellu (former MIC President and former Works Minister, Dato’ Seri Utama S. Samy Vellu), a small plot of land was given by the Federal Government, along 6½ Miles, Ipoh Road. Dato Seri S. Samy Vellu also assisted the temple in seeking a contribution of RM5,000.00 from the Federal Government and took a personal interest in the construction and improvement of the temple.

1964
The temple was renamed as Sri Muneeswarar Alayam and the first Kumbabishegam was held.
1979
Due to increasing number of devotees, a Navagrahas shrine was built to accommodate the increasing number of devotees to perform Saneeswarar prayers on Saturdays

Subsequently Sri Maha Mariamman was included as one of the main deities to the temple and the second Kumbhabishegam took place.
1992
The temple was renamed to Sri Siva Muneeswarar Alayam when Shivalingam and Nandhi were included and made as the main deity of the temple under the chairmanship of Mr. K. Manikam. The third kumbhabishegam was held on the 9th of September.
1996
The economic boom saw the widening of Jalan Ipoh which affected our temple. Due to this road widening project by the Federal Government, the temple had to be demolished to accommodate the construction of the new highway which is a part of Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR 2) and a temporary temple was constructed.
1997
Funds were raised and the planning & development works to build a new temple took place. The Committee went through various challenges in raising the fund and it took almost 10 years to complete the construction of the new temple
2006
On 8th of June 2006, after 10 years of hardship, the Holy Consecration (Maha Kumbhabishegam) took place on this auspicious day. The ceremony was conducted by Siva Aagama Baskar Siva Sri A.P. Muthukumar Sivachariyar and a team of 15 Gurukkals. The Kumbhabishegam was then followed by 48 days of Mandalaabhishegam

With the increase of the Hindu population surrounding the temple vicinity over the past few years, many improvements have been developed with the help of various chairmen and managing committee members who have devoted their precious time and helped improve the status of the temple from day one for the benefit of our devotees. The temple has been doing its religious duties to its best and to the satisfaction of devotees in its surroundings.
